Oct 20, Catskill, NY…  NY The Bass Federation (NYTBF) kicked off their 2013 tournament campaign with an early bird event on the Hudson River where valuable Angler of the Year (AOY) and Ranger Cup points were at stake. The Hudson continues to challenge tournament anglers looking to exceed the 15” minimum length limit for bass, but as it is with many tough fisheries a few anglers will always figure it out and this event was no exception. As the river temperatures cool into the high 50s the bass turn on the feedbag and if you can find them these river smallmouth genuinely come to life; here’s a quick recap of how the winners caught their fish. Virginia TBF Holds Youth & Boat Captains Appreciation Tournament

Virginia TBF Junior Angler-2012 Six  Man Team Event

On 10/20/2012, The Virginia TBF Junior 6 Man Tournament was held on Kerr Lake in Boydton, VA. 31 youth anglers between ages 11-18 participated. Anglers blasted off at 7am with a weigh-in at 2:15pm. They fished a four fish limit.

The top 3 anglers in the 11-14 age group were 1st Place- Nathan Mazza of Northern Virginia Jr Bass Anglers with 3 fish that weighed 4.56. Seth Bonar of Buggs Island Young Anglers had 2nd place with one fish that weighed 3.28 lbs and Hayden Bell of Virginia Junior Anglers had 3rd Place with 2 fish that weighed 2.85 lbs.

In the 15-18 Age Group, Zachary Francis of Southwest VA Junior Anglers had 1st Place with 3 fish that weighed 6.75 lbs, Junior Roberts of Buggs Island Young Anglers had 2nd Place with 4 fish that weighed 5.40 lbs and 3rd Place was Austin Starford of Virginia Junior Anglers who had 1 fish that weighed 4.54 lbs which was also the big fish of the tournament. DARRIN SCHWENKBECK WINS NY THE BASS FEDERATION (NYTBF) STATE QUALIFIER ON LAKE CHAMPLAIN

Oct 13 & 14, Port Henry, NY… This past weekend NY The Bass Federation (NYTBF) hit mighty Lake Champlain to close out the 2012 season and qualify their 2013 12-man Eastern Divisional Team. Predictions were 40 lbs. to win and a check weight around 30-35 lbs., but it turns out an extreme weather front hit the big lake the day before dropping the water temps by 5-8 degrees and it changed the bite completely.

The winner Darrin Schwenkbeck brought in 34.70 lbs. of smallmouth to win the event. Schwenkbeck was unavailable for post event comments, but during the weigh-in he reported fishing north along the Vermont side of the lake. Continue reading

Florida Bass Federation Announces 2013 State Team

Over the weekend of October 13 and 14, the Florida Bass Federation held their 2012 State Championship tournament on Lake Seminole in Jackson County, Florida. The weather was great but the fishing was tough, which made the winners performances all the more impressive. The highlight of the day – Gary Paul of the Fort Myers Bass Club claimed the title of State Champion with 21.2 pounds by edging out Leon Roy of the Tri State Bass Slayers by just less than two pounds. For the Co-Anglers, Michael Davis of the Winter Haven Lunker Lovers topped the list with 12.35 pounds followed by David Glenn, also of the Winter Haven Lunker Lovers, who managed 8.95 pounds.
